Contro Natura (Unnatural) aims to shed light on the many facts and figures that we are told about the food we eat. Bressanini and Mautino draw on their extensive scientific research, in order to analyse and explain the often-untold history of many foods, such as wheat, rice, and maize. The authors attempt to dispel common misconceptions about food, which often stem from simple disinformation. Politics and the media have been known to spread inaccurate messages, which ultimately lead people astray, create unnecessary alarmism, and encourage false conspiracy theories. The authors are recognised and respected scientific popularisers, and have no interest in making waves; they simply want to provide people with reliable information so that consumers are able to become more aware of the choices available to them.
