When it comes to personality, people tend to think that we are who we are, and that we simply don’t change. However, despite what numerous personality tests might say, our personality changes during the course of our life. The author admits that if he had listened to a personality test, his life would have been completely different. As a boy, he took a test to understand more about his personality and to find his life’s purpose, but the result left him somewhat puzzled because his answers indicated that he was destined to be weak and to struggle to commit to anything.
Initially, the outcome of this personality test had a negative impact because Hardy thought of these test results as a sort of life sentence which meant he would not be able to change or grow as a person. He spent many years carrying this limiting belief with him, that is until his eyes were opened to the possibility that his personality could be changed.
The things we believe about ourselves are very important, and thinking that your personality cannot change can be pretty dangerous. Many people stop at personality tests and passively accept their limitations, missing the opportunity to grow and improve. But the tests are nothing more than photographs of a person's emotional state at a given moment; the fact is that they don’t mean a thing.
In life, it is important to have a long-term vision, and pursue personal growth goals with commitment and determination.
Many of us tend to think that there is a right person for us, a right job, and a right path in life, but this is an extremely debilitating perspective on life. Everyone is equipped with what they need to create and redefine their own purpose and set their own goals.
