Our planet has reached crisis-point, both in terms of the environment and humanity. Now, more than ever, we have an opportunity to change things around; one that might no longer be available in the not too distant future. Since it is estimated that 80% of the world population will live in large urbanised areas by 2030, the building and urban planning industry has a responsibility to promote changes to the current status quo. In her book, Rebuilding Earth, world renowned architect Teresa Coady has written 12 principles of Conscious Construction to help us think about how we can plan innovative spaces, not only to protect the environment and the future of our planet, but also to promote the physical and psychological well-being of human beings. The creation of thriving communities and a strong connection with nature will be key to our future survival.
