Raising a child can be difficult, especially in the early years when we have to deal with their tantrums, their impulsiveness, and their desire to touch everything and to constantly explore the world. Most people consider the ‘terrible twos’ to be the most difficult age, but each stage of development brings its own challenges.
Like many other parents, author Simone Davies was looking for a new way to raise her children, which did not involve scolding and punishments. She had already heard that putting a child in time-out when they need to calm them down, effectively pushing them away, has very negative consequences, since it tends to create feelings of hostility and mistrust in the child towards the adult. During her research into different approaches, she began to study the Montessori method, and eventually went on to open her own school.
Davies, however, does not only apply this method in the classroom, but also in everyday life at home, giving parents the tools they need to raise their children in a way that embraces their true nature, that respects who they are, and that creates awareness.
